Sandeep Lamichhane created history when he became the first player from Nepal to play in the Indian Premier League. So good was his debut season for Delhi in 2018 that he was one of the five overseas players retained by the franchise for the 2019 season. Mentored by the former Australian captain Michael Clarke, the youngster has been making waves in leagues all around the globe.

Still only a teenager, Lamichhane has earned plaudits for his bowling performances in leagues in West Indies, Australia and Pakistan, and became the first cricketer to make his international debut playing for a World XI. He earned the Player of the Series award in the ICC World Cricket League Division 2, and was instrumental in Nepal making it to the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. Together with Amit Mishra, Lamichhane will form a lethal leg-spin bowling combination for Delhi Capitals for the second year running.

Talk about making an instant impact. Rishabh Pant, the swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman, was one of the three players retained by Delhi ahead of the 2018 auction, and paid it back with a season so scintillating that he has since gone on to become India's No. 1 wicketkeeper in the Test team! Pant narrowly missed out on the IPL Orange Cap in VIVO IPL 2018, but his 684 runs from 14 innings was the lone bright spot for Delhi. Since then, Pant has starred for India as well, scoring a career-best 159* in the team's Test series-winning effort in Sydney earlier this year.

Pant's stellar 2018 saw him score a magnificent 128*, and five more half-centuries; the Delhi Capitals will be looking for more of the same from the diminutive keeper, who is now being mentored by Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly.

Ravichandran Ashwin made an instant impact with his leadership skills in the 2018 season of the IPL. Even though KXIP’s campaign fell away in the latter part of last season, Ashwin was a welcome departure from the batting captains every other team seems to possess in their ranks. The wily off-spinner has been legendary with his performances for the Indian Test team, and will be looking to make an impact in 2019 as well, after being retained by his new franchise. He spent a majority of his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings, before going on to play for Rising Pune Supergiants. His carrom ball still remains a potent weapon, and Ashwin’s wicket-taking skills will be on full show on the Mohali surface once again.

A batsman from the Bombay school of cricket, Prithvi Shaw has shown the ability to perform in crucial games. Captain of India’s Under-19 World Cup winning team, Prithvi was retained by Delhi Capitals after an impressive season for the franchise in the 2018 season. The opener has been making waves in the domestic circuit and scored centuries on debut in Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, and then added a third feather to his cap by becoming the youngest Indian Test centurion on debut last year.

Keemo Paul made headlines when he took a career-best 5 for 15 against Bangladesh in their T20 series in December 2018, helping his team break their duck after a tough few months on the road. The 21-year-old has become a regular feature in all formats for the Windies team in recent months, and has been among the wickets in all three versions of the game.

After making a mark in the Under-19 World Cup a few years ago, Kagiso Rabada’s stocks have risen sharply, so much that he has taken over the mantle of leading South Africa’s impressive pace attack in recent months. Rabada was retained by Delhi Capitals for the 2019 season despite not playing a part in 2018. His stature has only risen in world cricket in the last twelve months, and the tearaway quick will form an impressive fast bowling attack with Trent Boult and Ishant Sharma for company.

After going unsold in the 2018 IPL, India fast bowler Ishant Sharma was signed up by Delhi Capitals at a salary of INR 1.1 crore, and will form an impressive fast bowling line-up with the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Trent Boult. The tall fast bowler has been a pivotal member of the Indian Test team for a number of years, and returns to Delhi from where he plays his domestic cricket. Ishant played a vital role in India’s Test performances in England and Australia last season, and after spending time with Kolkata and Hyderabad previously, he returns to his home town for another crack at IPL glory.
